Image projection apparatus and compensation method

A compensation method of an image projection apparatus, the apparatus including a light emission unit that emits laser light, and a light scanning unit that projects an image on a drawing area by reflecting the laser light and scanning the reflected laser light, for compensating for a position to which the laser light is emitted, the compensation method comprising:

• detecting, according to a deviation from a desired value of a first pixel detected by the light detection unit at a predetermined position outside of the drawing area when the laser light is being horizontally scanned in a first direction and a deviation from a desired value of a second pixel detected by the light detection unit at the predetermined position when the laser light is being horizontally scanned in a second direction, each of a phase deviation of the laser light in a horizontal scanning direction and a swing angle fluctuation of the light scanning unit;
• and
• changing emission start timing according to each of a phase deviation amount of the laser light in the horizontal scanning direction and a swing angle fluctuation amount of the light scanning unit detected in the detecting.
