Abstract
The present disclosure relates to a method for determining a water cut value of a composition comprising a hydrocarbon. In some embodiments, the disclosure relates to an apparatus for determining the water cut value of the composition that comprises one or more of a capacitance probe, a temperature probe, a salinity probe, and a computer.
Claims8
An apparatus for determining a water cut value of a hydrocarbon composition, the apparatus comprising:
- a capacitance probe in fluid contact with the hydrocarbon composition and that is operable to induce a frequency value into the hydrocarbon composition, to detect a mixture permittivity value associated with the induced frequency value and to form an associated signal for the detected mixture permittivity value;
- a temperature probe in fluid contact with the hydrocarbon composition and that is operable to detect the temperature value of the composition and form an associated signal for the detected temperature value;
- a salinity probe in fluid contact with the hydrocarbon composition and that is operable to detect the salinity value of the composition and form an associated signal for the detected salinity value;
- and
- a computer comprising:
- a signal processing device having a non-transitory computer memory operable to receive the associated signal for the detected mixture permittivity value, an associated signal for the detected temperature value, and an associated signal for the detected salinity value;
- data stored on a readable medium;
- a programmed product stored in the non-transitory computer memory, the programmed product comprising instructions that are executable for:
- converting the associated signal for the detected mixture permittivity value into detected mixture permittivity;
- converting the associated signal for the detected temperature value into the detected temperature value;
- converting the associated signal for the salinity value into the detected salinity value;
- associating the detected mixture permittivity value of the hydrocarbon composition with the induced frequency value;
- converting the detected salinity value into a determined salinity value using data stored on the readable medium;
- converting the detected mixture permittivity value into a determined ratiometric mixture permittivity value;
- comparing the determined ratiometric mixture permittivity value at the determined salinity and induced frequency values with the data stored on the readable medium;
- and
- determining the water cut value for the hydrocarbon composition.
