A process for making ixazomib citrate of formula VI comprising reacting a compound of formula V with citric acid to form ixazomib citrate of formula VI: wherein R is hydrogen or an amide protecting group.

A process for making ixazomib citrate of formula VI comprising reacting a compound of formula V with citric acid to form ixazomib citrate of formula VI:
- wherein R is hydrogen or an amide protecting group.
An organotrifluoroborate salt of formula V,
- wherein R is hydrogen or an amide protecting group.
A process for making a compound of formula V comprising:
- fluorinating a compound of formula IV to form the compound of formula V;
- wherein R′ is hydrogen or an amide protecting group.
