Abstract
Embodiments are directed to recycled asphalt shingle pellets having a soft center with a biofuel or bio-oil diluent, and a harder, water-resistant shell coating. It is believed that by using a biofuel, more recycled asphalt shingles material may be used in the formulation of asphalt cement without compromising the performance grade of the asphalt cement.
Claims8
A plurality of recycled asphalt shingle pellets, each of the pellets comprising:
- a core pellet comprising:
- recycled asphalt shingle waste in an amount between 90 wt. % and 95 wt. %;
- and
- a softening agent in an amount between 5 wt. % and 10 wt. %;
- wherein the softening agent is selected from the group consisting of biofuels, bio-oils, and combinations thereof;
- and,
- a shell coating comprising:
- a water-resistant modified lignin sulfate binder, the water-resistant modified lignin sulfate binder further comprising;
- a water-resistant agent in the amount up to 2 wt. %;
- and,
