Abstract
Methods for embedding photocatalytic titanium dioxide in asphalt surfaces to reduce pollutants via photocatalytic reactions are provided herein. One method includes applying an amount of an asphalt surface treatment compound to an upper surface of the asphalt surface, the asphalt surface treatment compound including a mixture of a liquid carrier compound with a titanium dioxide (TiO2) photocatalyst.
Claims13
A method for treating an asphalt surface, the method comprising:
- impregnating an upper surface of the asphalt surface with an amount of an asphalt surface treatment compound, the asphalt surface treatment compound comprising a mixture of a liquid asphalt carrier compound with a titanium dioxide (TiO2) photocatalyst, wherein the liquid asphalt carrier compound includes a petroleum-based asphalt sealant uniformly penetrating to a predetermined depth throughout the asphalt surface and carrying the TiO2 photocatalyst throughout the predetermined depth of the asphalt surface.
A method, comprising:
- impregnating an upper surface of the asphalt surface with a photocatalytic compound, the photocatalytic compound including a an asphaltic liquid asphalt carrier compound in which, wherein the photocatalytic compound penetrates the asphalt surface down to a predetermined depth of at least a quarter of an inch relative to an the upper surface of the asphalt surface, wherein the asphaltic liquid carrier compound includes a petroleum-based asphalt sealant uniformly penetrating to the predetermined depth throughout the asphalt surface and carrying the photocatalytic compound throughout the predetermined depth of the asphalt surface.
An asphalt surface treatment compound, comprising:
- an amount of an asphaltic liquid carrier compound mixed with an amount of a titanium dioxide (TiO2) photocatalyst, wherein the asphaltic liquid carrier compound penetrates an asphalt surface down to a predetermined depth of at least a quarter of an inch relative to an upper surface of the asphalt surface, the asphaltic liquid carrier compound impregnating the asphalt surface, wherein the asphaltic liquid carrier compound includes a petroleum-based asphalt sealant uniformly penetrating to the predetermined depth throughout the asphalt surface and carrying the TiO2 photocatalyst throughout the predetermined depth of the asphalt surface.
