Abstract
An out of order processor. The processor includes a virtual load store queue for allocating a plurality of loads and a plurality of stores, wherein more loads and more stores can be accommodated beyond an actual physical size of the load store queue of the processor; wherein the processor allocates other instructions besides loads and stores beyond the actual physical size limitation of the load/store queue; and wherein the other instructions can be dispatched and executed even though intervening loads or stores do not have spaces in the load store queue.
Claims17
An out of order processor, comprising:
- a virtual load store queue for allocating a plurality of loads and a plurality of stores, wherein more loads and more stores can be accommodated beyond an actual physical size of a physical load store queue of the processor;
- wherein the processor allocates other instructions besides loads and stores beyond the actual physical size of the physical load store queue;
- and
- wherein the other instructions can be dispatched and executed even though intervening loads or stores do not have spaces in the physical load store queue,
- wherein as loads retire out of the virtual load store queue, a load dispatch window moves to subsequent instructions in a sequence and will include more allocated loads to be considered for dispatch equivalent to a number of loads that have retired from the virtual load store queue.
A computer system, comprising:
- an out of order processor coupled to a memory, wherein the out of order processor further comprises:
- a virtual load store queue for allocating a plurality of loads and a plurality of stores, wherein more loads and more stores can be accommodated beyond an actual physical size of a physical load store queue of the processor;
- wherein the processor allocates other instructions besides loads and stores beyond the actual physical size of the physical load store queue;
- and
- wherein the other instructions can be dispatched and executed even though intervening loads or stores do not have spaces in the physical load store queue,
- wherein as loads retire out of the virtual load store queue, a load dispatch window moves to subsequent instructions in a sequence and will include more allocated loads to be considered for dispatch equivalent to a number of loads that have retired from the virtual load store queue.
An out of order processor, comprising:
- a virtual load store queue for allocating a plurality of loads and a plurality of stores, wherein more loads and more stores can be accommodated beyond an actual physical size of a physical load store queue of the processor;
- wherein the processor allocates other instructions besides loads and stores beyond the actual physical size of the physical load store;
- wherein the other instructions can be dispatched and executed even though intervening loads or stores do not have spaces in the load store queue;
- and
- wherein the physical load store queue and the virtual load store queue comprise a unified structure within the processor,
- wherein as loads retire out of the virtual load store queue, a load dispatch window moves to subsequent instructions in a sequence and will include more allocated loads to be considered for dispatch equivalent to a number of loads that have retired from the virtual load store queue.
