Abstract
A video encoding method using a plurality of reference pictures includes: selecting whether or not a resilient picture referencing scheme is to be used for encoding video; writing a parameter indicating the selection into a header of an encoded video bitstream; and encoding a picture using inter-picture prediction using a result of the selection.
Claims5
A video encoding method for encoding each of pictures included in a video to have a hierarchical structure of layers, using one or more reference pictures, the video encoding method comprising:
- selecting whether or not temporally scalable coding is performed on the video;
- judging whether or not each of the pictures is a key picture based on a temporal level corresponding to one of the layers to which the picture belongs, the key picture having a predetermined temporal level that is lower than a temporal level of a current picture;
- in a case where temporally scalable coding is selected, (i) selecting only key pictures as valid reference pictures for the current picture out of all reference pictures included in a reference picture memory, when the current picture follows the key picture in display order and is a switching point of temporal levels, and (ii) selecting a non-key picture as one of the valid reference pictures when the current picture is not the switching point, the non-key picture following an immediately preceding key picture in display order;
- constructing a reference picture list including the valid reference pictures;
- and
- encoding the current picture into a bitstream by performing motion prediction on the current picture using the valid reference pictures in the reference picture list.
A video encoding apparatus which encodes a current picture in a video using one or more reference pictures, the video encoding apparatus comprising:
- a selection unit configured to select whether or not temporally scalable coding is performed on the video;
- a judgment unit configured to judge whether or not each of the pictures is a key picture based on a temporal level corresponding to one of the layers to which the picture belongs, the key picture having a predetermined temporal level that is lower than a temporal level of a current picture;
- a valid reference picture selection unit configured, in a case where temporally scalable coding is selected, (i) to select only key pictures as valid reference pictures for the current picture out of all reference pictures included in a reference picture memory, when the current picture follows the key picture in display order and is a switching point of temporal levels, and (ii) select a non-key picture as one of the valid reference pictures when the current picture is not the switching point, the non-key picture following an immediately preceding key picture in display order;
- a reference picture list construction unit configured to construct a reference picture list including the valid reference pictures;
- and
- an encoding unit configured to encode the current picture into a bitstream by performing motion prediction on the current picture using the valid reference pictures in the reference picture list.
