Abstract
Presently disclosed are systems and methods for monitoring and managing communication paths in data centers. One embodiment takes the form of a method that includes associating an end-to-end communication path with one or more service-level parameters, where a plurality of PLCCs are interconnected along the end-to-end communication path. The method also includes receiving a low-signal-level indication from at least one PLCC on the communication path, and responsively (i) selecting at least one responsive action based at least in part on the one or more service-level parameters and (ii) taking the at least one selected responsive action with respect to the end-to-end communication path.
Claims18
A method comprising:
- at a communication-path-management controller, establishing at least one end-to-end communication path of a plurality of end-to-end communication paths, and associating the established at least one end-to-end communication path with a secure-path parameter, wherein each of the plurality of end-to-end communication paths traverses a plurality of links between interconnected physical-layer cross connects (PLCCs), each link comprising at least one data port, each data port having a respective transceiver;
- maintaining in a database of the communication-path-management controller (i) a mapping of all end-to-end paths and (ii) a mapping of all links;
- receiving a low-signal-level indication message from at least one PLCC on the at least one end-to-end communication path, via a system bus connected between the at least one PLCC and the communication-path-management-controller, the message indicating that a low-signal-level condition was detected at a transceiver in the at least one PLCC, and responsively:
- searching (i) the mapping of all links to determine a link ID associated with the transceiver and (ii) the mapping of all end-to-end paths to determine a path ID associated with the link ID;
- determining that the path ID is associated with the secure-path parameter;
- and
- responsively storing a secure-path fault indication.
A communication-path-management controller comprising:
- a data-communication interface configured to communicate with a plurality of PLCCs that are interconnected along an end-to-end communication path;
- a processor;
- and
- data storage containing instructions executable by the processor for causing the communication-path-management controller to carry out a set of functions, wherein the set of functions includes:
- establishing at least one end-to-end communication path of a plurality of end-to-end communication paths, and associating the established at least one end-to-end communication path with a secure-path parameter, wherein each of the plurality of end-to-end communication paths traverses a plurality of links between interconnected physical-layer cross connects (PLCCs), each link comprising at least one data port, each data port having a respective transceiver;
- maintaining in a database of the communication-path-management controller (i) a mapping of all end-to-end paths and (ii) a mapping of all links;
- receiving, via the data-communication interface, a low-signal-level indication message from at least one PLCC on the at least one end-to-end communication path, via a system bus connected between the at least one PLCC and the communication-path-management-controller, the message indicating that a low-signal-level condition was detected at a transceiver in the at least one PLCC, and responsively:
- searching (i) the mapping of all links to determine a link ID associated with the transceiver and (ii) the mapping of all end-to-end paths to determine a path ID associated with the link ID;
- determining that the path ID is associated with the secure-path parameter;
- and
- responsively storing a secure-path fault indication.
