Abstract
A distributed control node enables local control of reactive power. A consumer node generates local real power on a consumer side of a point of common coupling (PCC). The control node converts local real power into reactive power with a conversion device on the consumer side of the PCC. The control node can deliver the reactive power to the grid to provide VARs to the grid from locally generated real power.
Claims20
A method for interfacing with a power grid network, comprising:
- identifying a condition of the grid network that can be adjusted by providing reactive power to the grid network;
- generating on the consumer side of a point of common coupling (PCC) to the grid network, with an energy conversion device on the consumer side of the PCC, reactive power from consumer generated energy from an energy source coupled to the consumer side of the PCC;
- and
- delivering the reactive power to the grid network via the PCC including impedance matching an interface of the energy conversion device to the grid network and outputting a current generated with the energy conversion device out of phase with respect to a voltage of the grid network.

A consumer node within a power grid system, comprising:
- a grid connector to couple the consumer node to a grid network on a consumer side of a point of common coupling (PCC);
- a local energy source coupled to the consumer side of the PCC to generate real power;
- and
- an energy conversion device on the consumer side of the PCC to generate reactive power from the real power from the local energy source, and deliver the reactive power to the grid network via the PCC including the energy conversion device to impedance match the grid connector to the grid network and output a current generated with the energy conversion device out of phase with respect to a voltage of the grid network.

A power grid system, comprising:
- a local energy source coupled to a consumer side of a point of common coupling (PCC) to a grid network of the power grid system, the local energy source to generate real power;
- and
- a control node coupled to the local energy source at the PCC, the control node including a metering device to identify a condition of the grid network that can be adjusted by providing reactive power to the grid network;
- an energy conversion device to generate reactive power from the real power from the local energy source, and deliver the reactive power to the grid network via the PCC including the energy conversion device to impedance match the grid connector to the grid network and output a current generated with the energy conversion device out of phase with respect to a voltage of the grid network.
