Abstract
A training method for sclerotherapy. The method includes directing a needle tip into communication with an artificial venous structure, dispensing a fluid through the needle to force fluid from the artificial venous structure and detecting the fluid that is displaced from the artificial venous structure.
Claims12
A method for practicing vein therapy treatment with a training device, the method comprising:
- directing a needle tip into communication with a first artificial vein of a plurality of artificial veins included in an artificial venous structure mounted on a base of the training device, the artificial venous structure being in fluid communication with and filled with a first fluid via a port;
- dispensing a second fluid through the needle to force the first fluid from the artificial venous structure into a reservoir, the first fluid moving from the artificial venous structure through a flow path extending from the artificial venous structure to the reservoir, the flow path including a connecting tube with the port, wherein fluid flow through the port and out of the training device is blocked during the dispensing while the first fluid moves through the connecting tube along the flow path into the reservoir;
- detecting that the first fluid that is displaced from the artificial venous structure has entered the reservoir, to thereby confirm that the needle tip successfully pierced the first artificial vein;
- and
- repeating the directing, dispensing, and detecting steps using a second artificial vein in the plurality of artificial veins, the second artificial vein having a different internal lumen diameter than the first artificial vein, to provide training for piercing different sizes of veins with the needle tip.

A method for practicing sclerotherapy treatment of spider veins with a training device, the method comprising:
- directing a needle tip into communication with an artificial venous structure mounted on a base of the training device, the artificial venous structure being in fluid communication with and filled with a first fluid via a port;
- dispensing a second fluid through the needle to force the first fluid from the artificial venous structure into a reservoir, the first fluid moving from the artificial venous structure through a flow path extending from the artificial venous structure to the reservoir, the flow path including a connecting tube with the port;
- blocking movement of the first fluid through the port while the first fluid moves through the connecting tube along the flow path into the reservoir during the dispensing step;
- detecting that the first fluid that is displaced from the artificial venous structure has entered the reservoir, to thereby confirm that the needle tip successfully pierced the artificial venous structure;
- and
- repeating the directing, dispensing, blocking, and detecting steps,
- wherein the artificial venous structure includes a plurality of artificial veins defining at least one internal lumen diameter of 0.5 millimeters to 1.0 millimeter, such that the repeating of the directing, dispensing, and detecting steps provides training for sclerotherapy performed via injection of medicine or sclerosing solution into spider veins.
