Graphical modeling of position hierarchies

An apparatus comprising a processor for modeling position hierarchies in a computing environment, the computing environment comprising one or more computing devices in communication with a graphical hierarchy modeling software application, wherein the graphical hierarchy modeling software application executes software, wherein the software provides displayable information accessible to the one or more computing devices, a computing device of the one or more computing devices configured to:

• receive a data set pertaining to a position hierarchy model, wherein the data set comprises a plurality of position nodes having at least one parent position node;
• traverse the data set to determine hierarchical relationships therebetween;
• analyze the plurality of position nodes to determine which position nodes are configured to receive incumbent resources, which position nodes are placeholder position nodes, and which position nodes are configured to be single resource position nodes;
• receive a plurality of incumbent resource allocations;
• in response to a user incumbent assignment input, assign the plurality of incumbent resource allocations to one or more of the plurality of position nodes;
• in response to a user resource assignment input, assigning at least one resource to at least one of the assigned incumbent resource allocations;
• analyze the data set to determine a number of open incumbent allocations remain for the plurality of position nodes;
• analyze the data set to determine a number of resources allocated to the incumbent resource allocations;
• determine from the hierarchical relationships between the plurality of position nodes a link network connecting the plurality of position nodes;
• transform the data set and link network into a graphical position hierarchy model for display to a user;
• cause display of the graphical position hierarchy model;
• receive an optimization input configured to optimize at least one aspect of the graphical position hierarchy model;
• and
• in response to the optimization input, recursively varying the user incumbent assignment input until at least the one aspect of the graphical position hierarchy model is optimized to a predefined optimization threshold.

A tangible non-transitory storage medium including instructions executable by one or more servers of a server system for modeling position hierarchies in a computing environment, the computing environment including one or more computing devices in communication with a software application, wherein the software application executes software, wherein the software provides displayable information accessible to the one or more computing devices, the tangible storage medium including instructions for:

• receiving a data set pertaining to a position hierarchy model, wherein the data set comprises a plurality of position nodes having at least one parent position node;
• traversing the data set to determine hierarchical relationships therebetween;
• analyzing the plurality of position nodes to determine which position nodes are configured to receive incumbent resources, which position nodes are placeholder position nodes, and which position nodes are configured to be single resource position nodes;
• receiving a plurality of incumbent resource allocations;
• in response to a user incumbent assignment input, assign the plurality of incumbent resource allocations to one or more of the plurality of position nodes;
• in response to a user resource assignment input, assign at least one resource to at least one of the assigned incumbent resource allocations;
• analyzing the data set to determine a number of open incumbent allocations remain for the plurality of position nodes;
• analyzing the data set to determine a number of resources allocated to the incumbent resource allocations;
• determining from the hierarchical relationships between the plurality of position nodes a link network connecting the plurality of position nodes;
• transforming the data set and link network into a graphical position hierarchy model for display to a user;
• causing display of the graphical position hierarchy model;
• receiving an optimization input configured to optimize at least one aspect of the graphical position hierarchy model;
• and
• in response to the optimization input, recursively varying the user incumbent assignment input until at least the one aspect of the graphical position hierarchy model is optimized to a predefined optimization threshold.
