Abstract
The present invention provides a method of transferring content from a file and a database. In this case, the file includes content instances, each content instance being associated with a respective field, and each field having a respective type. The transfer is achieved by determining the type of each field, and then storing each content instance in a store in accordance with the determined field type of the associated field. Each content instance can then be transferred to the database in accordance with the determined field type. A similar procedure is provided for creating XML files based on content within the database.
Claims18
A method of extracting content from a database, the database including content instances associated with database fields having a respective database field type, the method being performed using a processing system having a processor coupled to a memory and the method including:
- a) receiving an indication to create an XML file wherein the indication specifies a predetermined report;
- b) receiving the report from the database, wherein the report comprising query templates specifying specific contents to be extracted from the database;
- c) determining a mapping between database fields and file fields at least partially in accordance with a document type definition of the XML file, wherein the mapping includes mapping rules defining how content instances should be transferred from the database to the XML file;
- d) creating a data store in the memory of the processing system, the data store including store fields having required store field types by:
- i) generating queries using the query templates;
- ii) transferring the queries to the database;
- ii) determining a number of content instances in the at least one report using the queries;
- and,
- iv) creating store fields in the data store in accordance with a number of content instances in the at least one report;
- e) after creating the data store, retrieving a content instance for a parent node from a database field of the database;
- f) storing the content instance in a store field of the store in accordance with the database field type of the database field and the mapping;
- g) retrieving a content instance for a child node of the parent node from a database field of the database;
- h) storing the content instances from database in a plurality of store fields in the store in accordance with the database field type of the associated database field and the mapping;
- i) repeating steps f) to h) for each parent node;
- and,
- j) Transferring at least one content instance from a database field to a file field, via the store,
- in accordance with the mapping.
