Abstract
An automated method of isolating and analyzing an analyte using a form-locking gripping mechanism. An analytical system comprising consumables and a handler, wherein the handler and consumable interact with a form-locking gripping mechanism are also included.
Claims9
A method for isolating and processing an analyte that may be present in a fluid sample, the method comprising the automated steps in the following order:
- a) providing a fluid sample in a multiwell plate in a first station, wherein the multiwell plate comprises (i) at least two form-locking elements positioned on opposing side walls of the multiwell plate, and (ii) a base comprising recesses;
- b) combining together a solid support material and said fluid sample in a well of said multiwell plate for a period of time and under conditions sufficient to permit said analyte to be immobilized on the solid support material;
- c) moving a handler positioned above the multiwell plate down towards the multiwell plate to contact the multiwell plate with the handler, wherein the handler comprises (i) at least two movable gripper fingers configured to contact the multiwell plate on the opposing side walls, and (ii) at least two spring-mounted pins configured to contact a top surface of the multiwell plate;
- d) pushing the handler onto the top surface of the multiwell plate and thereby, forcing the spring-mounted pins away from the top surface of the multiwell plate;
- e) moving the gripper fingers to engage with the at least two form-locking elements;
- f) transporting the multiwell plate via said handler to a separation station;
- g) securing the multiwell plate in the separation station by engaging the recesses of the multiwell plate with latch-clips of the separation station, thereby positioning and fixing the multiwell plate in the separation station;
- h) isolating the solid support material from other material present in the fluid sample in the separation station;
- and
- i) purifying the analyte in the separation station by separating the fluid sample from the solid support material and washing the materials one or more times with a wash buffer.
