Low profile ceiling mounted luminaire

A luminaire comprising:

• a compartment on a first side of the luminaire, the compartment housing an LED circuit board;
• and
• a split fin structure on a second side of the luminaire,
• wherein the second side is opposite the first side and, when the luminaire is mounted, the second side faces a mounting surface to which the luminaire is mounted,
• wherein the luminaire has a U-shaped cross-section defined by the second side, the U-shaped cross-section and the mounting surface forming an open channel extending along a length of the luminaire,
• wherein the luminaire is configured to direct a flow of air outwardly from a central portion of the luminaire through the open channel between the second side and the mounting surface, and
• wherein the luminaire has a profile less than about two inches.
