Hydraulic system for a torque converter

A machine comprising:

• a prime mover for generating a rotational force;
• a driven element operatively coupled to the prime mover through a powertrain;
• a torque converter disposed in the powertrain, the torque converter providing a fluid coupling for transmission of the rotational force;
• a lockup clutch operatively associated with the torque converter, the lockup clutch providing a rigid coupling for transmission of the rotational force;
• and
• a hydraulic circuit operatively associated with the torque converter and the lockup clutch, the hydraulic circuit including:
• a hydraulic fluid source supplying pressurized hydraulic fluid;
• an outlet regulator disposed downstream of and in fluid communication with the torque converter;
• and
• a diverter valve in fluid communication with the hydraulic fluid source and disposed to selectively direct pressurized hydraulic fluid from the hydraulic fluid source between the torque converter and the lockup clutch to selectively engage and disengage the lockup clutch, the diverter valve further includes a bypass passage to selectively establish fluid communication between the torque converter and a return line.
