Abstract
The present invention provides methods for diagnosing mental disorders. The invention also provides methods of identifying modulators of mental disorders as well as methods of using these modulators to treat patients suffering from mental disorders.

A method for preventing or treating a major depression disorder in a subject, the method comprising administering a therapeutically effective amount of a fibroblast growth factor 9 (FGF9) inhibitor to the subject, wherein the inhibitor comprises an antibody or fragment thereof that binds to an FGF9 polypeptide or comprises a polynucleotide that hybridizes to an FGF9 transcript.
