Abstract
The present disclosure discloses a pharmaceutical molecule of Garcinol chemically complexed with cyclodextrins and the use of the complexed molecule in prevention and management of cardiac dysfunction induced by chemotherapy, drugs and/or other insults to the heart caused by lifestyle and disease conditions. The disclosure also relates to a method of extraction and purification of high yield of 95-99% pure Garcinol from Garcinia species and a method of chemically complexing Garcinol with cyclodextrins to improve its stability and bioavailability.

A method of managing and treating conditions of drug induced cardiac dysfunction, said method comprising the steps of administering a physiologically effective amount of complex comprising garcinol and cyclodextrin, wherein the mole ratio of the garcinol to the cyclodextrin is about 1:4.5 or a composition comprising garcinol and cyclodextrin, optionally along with a pharmaceutically acceptable excipient, wherein the mole ratio of the garcinol to the cyclodextrin is about 1:4.5, to a subject in need thereof, wherein the drug induced dysfunction is induced by a drug selected from the group consisting of:
- doxorubicin, anthracycline derivatives, isoproterenol and digitalis.
