Abstract
An intraocular lens (IOL) system includes an active lens element to provide dynamic optical power for active accommodation. The active lens element has mechanical indentations disposed along a perimeter of the active lens element and the mechanical indentations form structurally weakened locations in the active lens element. A first pair of the mechanical indentations defines terminal ends of a first folding line extending between the first pair of the mechanical indentations, and the first pair of the mechanical indentations promotes folding of the active lens element along the first folding line. The IOL system also includes control circuitry coupled to the active lens element to control the active lens element during the active accommodation.
Claims21
An intraocular lens (IOL) system, comprising:
- an active lens element including an optical device disposed proximate to a center of the active lens element to provide dynamic optical power;
- mechanical indentations disposed along a perimeter of the active lens element that are offset from the optical device and extend partially towards the center of the active lens element, wherein the mechanical indentations form structurally weakened locations in the active lens element, wherein a first pair of the mechanical indentations define terminal ends of a first folding line extending between the first pair of the mechanical indentations, and wherein the first pair of the mechanical indentations promote folding of the active lens element along the first folding line;
- and
- control circuitry coupled to the active lens element to control the active lens element.
