Abstract
A stimulation electrode assembly configured to be positioned relative to a patient for an operative procedure is disclosed. The stimulation electrode may be a connection or self-contained component to contact a portion of a nerve. The stimulation electrode may provide or receive a signal to and/or from the nerve to assist in testing integrity of the nerve.
Claims28
A self-contained stimulation system, comprising:
- an electronics assembly having:
- a power source,
- an activation component,
- a controller having a memory and a processor, wherein the controller is configured to be activated by the activation component to set a signal, wherein the processor operates automatically to execute instructions stored on the memory to set the signal once activated with the activation component, and
- an electrode configured to deliver a current to a selected tissue based on the set signal;
- and
- a housing configured to contain at least the electronics assembly;
- a cuff member formed with the housing;
- an elongated member electrically connected to the electrode;
- and
- an electrode contact connected to the elongated member electrically connected to the electrode;
- wherein the housing is further configured, including size and shape, to be placed near a nerve to allow the electrode contact to contact a nerve.

A stimulation system, comprising:
- a housing extending generally along a plane;
- a cuff member formed with the housing;
- an elongated member electrically connected to the electrode;
- and
- an electrode contact connected to the elongated member electrically connected to the electrode;
- wherein the housing is further configured, including size and shape, to be placed near a nerve to allow the electrode contact to contact a nerve;
- wherein the cuff member includes a first cuff portion moveable relative to a second cuff portion;
- wherein the first cuff portion includes a first edge and the second cuff portion includes a second edge;
- wherein the first edge and the second edge meet in an opening region that is defined at an angle of about plus 5° to about plus 20° to about minus 5° to about minus 20° relative to the plane extending through the cuff member where the first edge and the second edge meet when the cuff member is closed.
6 more elements
A method of providing a stimulator system, comprising:
- forming an electronics assembly having:
- a power source, an activation component, a controller configured to be activated by the activation component to send a signal, and an electrode configured to deliver a current to a selected tissue upon receiving the signal;
- and
- housing the electronics assembly within a housing portion, wherein the housing portion has a configuration for placement in a patient;
- providing a cuff member formed with the housing, an elongated member electrically connected to the electrode, an electrode contact connected to the elongated member electrically connected to the electrode;
- providing the housing to have a size and shape to be placed near a nerve to allow the electrode contact to contact the nerve.
