Abstract
An acoustic biometric touch scanner device and method is disclosed. In one aspect, an acoustic fingerprint sensing device includes an array of ultrasonic transducers configured to transmit an ultrasound signal having a frequency in a range from 50 megahertz (MHz) to 500 MHz. The acoustic fingerprint ultrasonic transducers include a piezoelectric film. The acoustic fingerprint sensing device further includes a receiving surface configured to receive a finger. The acoustic fingerprint sensing device further includes a processor configured to generate an image of at least a portion of a fingerprint of the finger based on a reflection of the ultrasound signal from the finger.
Claims22
An acoustic fingerprint sensing device comprising:
- an array of ultrasonic transducers configured to transmit an ultrasound signal having a frequency in a range from 50 megahertz (MHz) to 500 MHz, the ultrasonic transducers comprising a piezoelectric film;
- first metal lines;
- second metal lines orthogonal to the first metal lines, and the first metal lines and the second metal lines enabling addressing of the ultrasonic transducers of the array;
- a surface configured to receive a finger;
- and
- a processor configured to generate an image of at least a portion of a fingerprint of the finger based on a reflection of the ultrasound signal from the finger, wherein the acoustic fingerprint sensing device is configured to perform transmit focusing on a selected portion of the surface.
A method of generating a biometric image, the method comprising:
- transmitting, using one or more ultrasonic transducers, an ultrasound signal in a frequency range from 50 megahertz (MHz) to 500 MHz wherein the transmitting comprises transmit focusing;
- receiving, using the one or more ultrasonic transducers, a reflection of the ultrasound signal;
- and
- generating the biometric image based on the reflection of the ultrasound signal.
An acoustic biometric sensing device comprising:
- ultrasonic transducers configured to transmit an ultrasound signal having a frequency in a range from 50 megahertz (MHz) to 500 MHz;
- a surface;
- and
- a processor in communication with the ultrasonic transducers, the processor configured to generate a biometric image based on a reflection of the ultrasound signal from an object in contact with the surface, wherein the acoustic biometric sensing device is configured to perform transmit focusing on a selected portion of the surface.
