Gate design with plunging nozzle and a waste reservoir for separating off ratio material

An apparatus for molding or casting an article of manufacture having a mold cavity and a feed system for filling the mold cavity with a fluid material,

• said feed system comprising:
• a nozzle that defines a plunge axis and that is configured for plunging along the plunge axis a valve member actuating by the plunge nozzle along the plunge axis, and
• structural members that define a series of voids including a waste reservoir, a runner, a passage that connects the waste reservoir to the runner, allowing fluid communication between the waste reservoir and the runner, an injection point for introducing fluid into the waste reservoir, and a gate that provides fluid communication between the runner and the mold cavity, and wherein the waste reservoir is immediately adjacent the injection point along the plunge axis, the passage is further away from the injection point than the waste reservoir and is immediately adjacent the waste reservoir along the plunge axis, the runner is further away from the injection point than the passage and is immediately adjacent the passage along the plunge axis, the gate is further away from the injection point than the runner and is immediately adjacent the runner along the plunge axis, and the mold cavity is furthest away from the injection point than any other void along the plunge axis.
