Abstract
An automated chest compression device has a housing for supporting a patient and a motor within the housing. A conical drive spool is operatively connected to the motor and a cable, is operatively connected to the conical drive spool. The cable is adapted to extend at least partially around the chest of the patient. A controller is operable to control the motor to compress the chest to variable thresholds.
Claims12
An electro-mechanical chest compression device comprising:
- a housing having a backboard area adapted to support a patient's chest when in use;
- a motor disposed in the backboard area of the housing;
- a drive spool operably attached to the motor, wherein the motor is capable of rotating the drive spool;
- a slot disposed in the drive spool, said slot having a shape;
- a belt attached to the drive spool, said belt capable of extending at least partially around the patient's chest, wherein rotation of the drive spool tightens the belt to compress the patient's chest;
- and
- a spline attached to the belt between left and right portions of the belt, said spline keyed to the slot to removably secure the belt to the drive spool and to engage an electrical contact.
