Continuing an activity commenced on a source device with a companion device

A companion electronic device, comprising:

• a processing subsystem;
• and
• a networking subsystem;
• wherein the processing subsystem and the networking subsystem perform operations for:
• receiving, from a first source electronic device, an advertisement message that includes information about a first activity being performed in a first application at the first source electronic device, wherein the information about the first activity comprises an activity descriptor for the first activity and a first time stamp indicating when the first activity was last performed;
• receiving, from a second source electronic device, an advertisement message that includes information about a second activity being performed in a second application at the second source electronic device, wherein the information about the second activity comprises an activity descriptor for the second activity and a second time stamp indicating when the second activity was last performed;
• comparing the first and second time stamps to identify which of the first activity and second activity is a most recent activity;
• determining that a third application in the companion electronic device is available for continuing the most recent activity, the continuing comprising commencing a third activity in the third application based on a current state of the most recent activity so that a state of the third activity corresponds to the current state of the most recent activity;
• and
• commencing the third activity in the second application.

A method, comprising:

• in a companion electronic device, performing operations for:
• receiving, from a first source electronic device, an advertisement message that includes information about a first activity being performed in a first application at the source electronic device, wherein the information about the first activity comprises a first time stamp indicating when the first activity was last performed;
• receiving, from a second source electronic device, an advertisement message that includes information about a second activity being performed in a second application at the second source electronic device, wherein the information about the second activity comprises a second time stamp indicating when the second activity was last performed;
• comparing the first and second time stamps to identify which of the first activity and second activity is a most recent activity;
• determining that a third application in the companion electronic device is available for continuing the most recent activity, the continuing comprising commencing a third activity in the third application based on a current state of the most recent activity so that a state of the third activity corresponds to the current state of the most recent activity;
• and
• commencing the third activity in the second application.
