The present invention relates to a method for identifying a compound that inhibits an activity of a histone lysine demethylase.

A method for treating cancer in a subject in need thereof, which comprises administering an effective amount of a compound and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier to the subject, wherein the compound has a structure of a formula I:

wherein R1, R2, R3 and R4 are independently F, Cl, Br, or I.
