Abstract
A method and apparatus for visualizing an assembly of parts for an aircraft. A shop order instance is identified for the assembly of parts for the aircraft. A volume is identified for the shop order instance. The assembly of parts is displayed within the volume in context with a number of assemblies of other parts within the volume.
Claims19
A method for visualizing an assembly of parts for an aircraft, the method comprising:
- identifying, by a processor, a particular position of the aircraft on an assembly line comprising a plurality of aircraft which includes the aircraft, wherein each of the plurality of aircraft has a different position on the assembly line;
- identifying, by the processor, a shop order instance for the assembly of parts for the aircraft, wherein the shop order instance is selected from a shop order database containing shop order instances that can be generated for only the particular position;
- identifying dynamically, by the processor, a volume for the shop order instance when a user selects the shop order instance that includes the assembly of parts, wherein the volume is based on at least one of a section in which the assembly of parts is located or a selected distance from the assembly of parts, and wherein the volume includes a number of assemblies of other parts that may be adjacent to or within the selected distance of the assembly of parts;
- and
- displaying, by a tangible display device according to a command from the processor, graphical representations of the assembly of parts within the volume in context with the number of assemblies of other parts as shown visually within the volume on a graphical user interface of the display device.

An aircraft management system comprising:
- an object manager comprising a memory configured to store one or more sets of instructions;
- and
- a processor coupled to the memory, the processor configured to execute the one or more sets of instructions, to:
- identify, by the processor, a particular position of an aircraft on an assembly line comprising a plurality of aircraft which includes the aircraft, wherein each of the plurality of aircraft has a different position on the assembly line;
- identify a shop order instance for an assembly of parts for an aircraft, wherein the shop order instance is selected from a shop order database containing shop order instances that can be generated for only the particular position;
- identify dynamically a volume for the shop order instance when a user selects the shop order instance that includes the assembly of parts, wherein the volume is based on at least one of a section in which the assembly of parts is located or a selected distance from the assembly of parts, and wherein the volume includes a number of assemblies of other parts that may be adjacent to or within the selected distance of the assembly of parts;
- and
- display graphical representations of the assembly of parts within the volume in context with the number of assemblies of other parts as shown visually within the volume on a graphical user interface of the aircraft management system;
- and
- a manufacturing system comprising manufacturing equipment configured to assemble the aircraft based on the shop order instance.
