## Abstract

An approach to treating congestive heart failure includes monitoring pulmonary congestion. Monitoring pulmonary congestion includes sensing a physiologic parameter using a sensor implanted within the patient. The method further comprises delivering a congestive heart failure therapy using a stimulator implanted within the patient. Delivering the congestive heart failure therapy includes delivering electrical stimulation to the patient using the sensed parameter to control the congestive heart failure therapy.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method for using an implantable system implanted within a congestive heart failure patient, comprising:
monitoring pulmonary congestion, wherein monitoring pulmonary congestion includes sensing a physiologic parameter using a sensor implanted within the patient, wherein sensing the physiologic parameter includes sensing ventricular filling pressure; and
delivering a congestive heart failure therapy using a stimulator implanted within the patient, wherein delivering the congestive heart failure therapy includes delivering electrical stimulation to the patient using the sensed parameter to control the congestive heart failure therapy, the congestive heart failure therapy including a neural stimulation therapy.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein delivering the congestive heart failure therapy includes delivering a baroreflex therapy.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein delivering the congestive heart failure therapy further includes delivering myocardial stimulation.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein delivering the congestive heart failure therapy includes delivering at least one disordered breathing therapy.

### Claim 5 (depends on 4)

The method of claim 4, wherein delivering at least one disordered breathing therapy includes stimulating a hypoglossal nerve.

### Claim 6 (depends on 4)

The method of claim 4, wherein delivering at least one disordered breathing therapy includes stimulating a phrenic nerve.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein delivering the congestive heart failure therapy includes delivering at least two disordered breathing therapies, wherein delivering the at least two disordered breathing therapies includes:
stimulating at least two of a baroreflex target to cause a baroreflex response in the patient, a phrenic nerve, or a hypoglossal nerve; and
coordinating the delivery of the disordered breathing therapies.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the delivering electrical stimulation to the patient using the sensed parameter to control the congestive heart failure therapy includes delivering the electrical stimulating using a closed loop control system and using the sensed parameter for feedback to the closed loop control system.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein sensing a physiologic parameter includes using sensing impedance.

### Claim 10

An implantable system for implantation within a congestive heart failure patient, comprising:
an implantable sensor configured to sense a physiologic parameter;
a stimulator configured to deliver a congestive heart failure therapy, the congestive heart failure therapy including a neurostimulation therapy, wherein in delivering the congestive heart failure therapy the stimulator is configured to deliver electrical stimulation to the patient; and
a controller configured to monitor pulmonary congestion using the sensed physiologic parameter and use the sensed physiologic parameter to control the congestive heart failure therapy, wherein the congestive heart failure therapy includes at least two disordered breathing therapies, the at least two disordered breathing therapies including at least two of: a baroreflex target to cause a baroreflex response in the patient, a phrenic nerve, or a hypoglossal nerve; and the controller is configured to coordinate the delivery of the disordered breathing therapies.
