## Abstract

Pump cassettes, wound-treatment apparatuses and methods. In some embodiments, a pump cassette comprises: a pump body having a pump chamber, an inlet valve in fluid communication with the pump chamber, and an outlet valve in fluid communication with the pump chamber; a diaphragm coupled to the pump body such that the diaphragm is movable to vary a volume in the pump chamber; and an identifier configured to store one or more properties of the pump cassette such that the identifier is readable by an automated reader to determine the one or more properties. In some embodiments, the pump cassette is configured to be removably coupled to a wound-treatment apparatus having an actuator such that the actuator can be activated to move the diaphragm.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A wound-treatment apparatus, comprising:
a pump cassette having a pump body and a diaphragm movably coupled to the pump body to form a chamber having a variable volume in response to the stroke of the diaphragm, wherein the pump body includes an inlet valve adapted to receive fluid from a fluid source into the chamber and an outlet valve adapted to discharge fluid from the chamber to a wound in response to a motivating force that reduces the volume of the chamber;
an identifier configurable to store pump information relating to at least one property of the diaphragm, the identifier adapted to be readable by an automated reader to provide the pump information; and
an actuating mechanism adapted to be removably coupled to the diaphragm and operable to provide the motivating force to the diaphragm for moving the diaphragm by a desired stroke length in response to the pump information.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The wound-treatment apparatus of claim 1, wherein the identifier comprises at least one of a radio-frequency identification (RFD) tag, a barcode, or a magnetic stripe.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The wound-treatment apparatus of claim 1, wherein the identifier is a label.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The wound-treatment apparatus of claim 1, wherein the identifier is disposed proximate the pump body.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The wound-treatment apparatus of claim 1, further comprising an automated reader configured to read the identifier when the actuating mechanism is coupled to the diaphragm to read the pump information.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The wound-treatment apparatus of claim 1, wherein the pump information comprises a code adapted to be read by a controller programmed to activate the actuating mechanism.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The wound-treatment apparatus of claim 1, wherein the actuating mechanism comprises an actuator activated by a solenoid.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The wound-treatment apparatus of claim 1, wherein the actuating mechanism comprises mechanical device adapted to motivate the diaphragm.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The wound-treatment apparatus of claim 1, wherein the at least one property related to diaphragm includes one or more of the diameter of the diaphragm, the area of the diaphragm, the stroke of the diaphragm, and the change in volume in the chamber caused by a stroke of the diaphragm.

### Claim 10 (depends on 1)

The wound-treatment apparatus of claim 1, wherein the inlet valve and outlet valve each comprises at least one of a ball valve, a duckbill valve, or an umbrella valve.

### Claim 11 (depends on 1)

The wound-treatment apparatus of claim 1, wherein the diaphragm is operable to alternately increase and decrease the volume of the chamber.

### Claim 12 (depends on 11)

The wound-treatment apparatus of claim 11, wherein the inlet valve is open and the outlet valve is closed when the diaphragm increases the volume of the chamber.

### Claim 13 (depends on 11)
