A method for transmitting a message to a wireless device in a mesh network,

• the wireless device comprising a set of at least two distinct logical entities, the wireless device being arranged for receiving a message during discontinuous reception opportunities,
• the method comprising, prior to transmission of the message, the steps of
• (a) selecting a transmission mode from a set of transmission modes comprising a first transmission mode and a second transmission mode, where,
• in the first transmission mode, the reception opportunities for the message are limited to the reception opportunities that are associated with a single selected logical entity of the set of at least two logical entities, and
• in the second transmission mode, the reception opportunities for the message correspond to combined reception opportunities associated with at least two logical entities of the set of at least two logical entities;
• (b) causing the transmission of the message during one of the reception opportunities corresponding to the selected transmission mode;
• and
• wherein the wireless device comprises at least one energy input for an energy harvester, wherein a reception opportunity occurs at a predetermined time instant after a transmission period, said transmission period being enabled at least in part by the harvesting of energy through said energy input, wherein said energy input is associated with a logical entity, and wherein said transmission period being triggered at least in part by the harvesting of energy through said energy input and said reception opportunities are associated with said logical entity.

A method for transmitting a message to a wireless device in a mesh network,

• the wireless device comprising a set of at least two distinct logical entities, the wireless device being arranged for receiving a message during discontinuous reception opportunities,
• the method comprising, prior to transmission of the message, the steps of
• (a) selecting a transmission mode from a set of transmission modes comprising a first transmission mode and a second transmission mode, where,
• in the first transmission mode, the reception opportunities for the message are limited to the reception opportunities that are associated with a single selected logical entity of the set of at least two logical entities, and
• in the second transmission mode, the reception opportunities for the message correspond to combined reception opportunities associated with at least two logical entities of the set of at least two logical entities;
• (b) causing the transmission of the message during one of the reception opportunities corresponding to the selected transmission mode;
• and
• wherein the proxy node or the message source comprises
• a table storing information regarding the wireless device, where a single table entry denotes a number of logical entities of the wireless device, wherein the number is selected by the proxy node or the message source between one and the number of logical entities the wireless device.

A message source apparatus for causing the transmission of a message in a mesh network to a wireless device comprising a set of at least two distinct logical entities, the wireless device being arranged for receiving a message during discontinuous reception opportunities,

• the message source apparatus comprising a controller adapted to select a transmission mode from a set of transmission modes comprising a first transmission mode and a second transmission mode, where,
• in the first transmission mode, the reception opportunities for the message are limited to the reception opportunities that are associated with a single selected logical entity of the set of at least two logical entities, and
• in the second transmission mode, the reception opportunities for the message correspond to combined reception opportunities associated with at least two logical entities of the set of at least two logical entities;
• said controller being adapted to cause the transmission of the message during one of the reception opportunities corresponding to the selected transmission mode;
• and
• wherein the selection of the transmission mode is based on one or multiple of the following criteria:
• characteristics of the wireless device, number of logical entities on the wireless device, type of the wireless device, frequency of communication of logical entities, type of communicated information, urgency of delivery of the communicated information, a need for any sort of confirmation by the wireless device, applicability of the communicated information to one or more logical entities of the wireless device or entire wireless devices, desired reliability of the delivery, creating one or multiple message to be delivered, characteristics of the source node, source node type, source node ability to be a proxy, a number of source nodes paired to or communicating to a particular logical entity, exactness of knowledge about proxies, delivery success rate of previous transmissions, a relation between the transmission modes, policy for managing the buffered messages.
