Snapshotting shared disk resources for checkpointing a virtual machine cluster

A computer system, comprising:

• one or more processors;
• and
• one or more computer-readable media having stored thereon computer-executable instructions representing an agent that, when instantiated at the one or more processors, cause the computer system to perform at least the following:
• receive, from a host, a request for shared storage information;
• based on receiving the request, query a clustering framework in an operating system of the computer system to identify one or more shared disk resources for which the computer system is an owner;
• send, to the host, the identity of the one or more shared disk resources;
• receive a request for a snapshot of the one or more shared disk resources;
• generate the snapshot of the one or more shared disk resources;
• and
• send, to the host, the snapshot of the one or more shared disk resources.

A computer program product comprising one or more hardware storage devices having stored thereon computer-executable instructions representing an agent that, when instantiated at one or more processors of a computer system, cause the computer system to perform at least the following:

• receive, from a host, a request for shared storage information;
• based on receiving the request, query a clustering framework in an operating system of the computer system to identify one or more shared disk resources for which the computer system is an owner;
• send, to the host, the identity of the one or more shared disk resources;
• receive a request for a snapshot of the one or more shared disk resources;
• generate the snapshot of the one or more shared disk resources;
• and
• send, to the host, the snapshot of the one or more shared disk resources.
