Automated exploitation of virtual machine resource modifications

A computer system for providing automated exploitation of virtual machine resource modifications, the computer system comprising:

• one or more computer processors;
• one or more computer readable storage media;
• and
• program instructions, stored on the one or more computer readable storage media for execution by at least one of the one or more computer processors, the program instructions comprising:
• program instructions to deploy at least one application in a distributed computing environment;
• program instructions to provide at least one resource of a virtual machine to the at least one application in the distributed computing environment, wherein the at least one resource of the virtual machine provided is recorded in metadata and the at least one application receives the metadata and using the metadata the at least one application determines how much of the at least one resource of the virtual machine to utilize;
• program instructions to determine a change to the at least one resource of the virtual machine, wherein a metalayer monitors the virtual machine for any changes in the at least one resource;
• and
• program instructions to, in response to determining a change to the at least one resource of the virtual machine, modify the metadata by the metalayer, wherein the at least one application uses the modified metadata to determine how much of the changed at least one resource of the virtual machine to utilize by the metalayer;
• program instructions to, automatically providing by the metalayer at least one of the changed resources to the virtual machine to fulfill any increase or decrease in resource requirements.
