Abstract
A solar receiver (100) having a radiation capturing element (3) about which is formed a channel (8) through which a working fluid flows such that thermal energy of the radiation capturing element (8) is absorbed by the working fluid, the channel (8) being shaped to provide a uniform cross sectional area along a length thereof between an inlet thereto and an outlet therefrom.
Claims11
A solar receiver comprising:
- a radiation capturing element terminating in a hemispherical portion opposite a radiation receiving aperture;
- and
- a flow channel formed around the radiation capturing element, the flow channel shaped for a uniform cross sectional area from an inlet of the flow channel to an outlet duct thereof, through the flow channel a working fluid flows to absorb thermal energy of the radiation capturing element, wherein the flow channel is filled with a porous material through which the working fluid flows, which porous material contacts the radiation capturing element, and
- wherein the working fluid absorbs at least a portion of the aforesaid thermal energy via the porous material, and wherein the porous material comprises silicon carbide, and
- wherein a thickness of the flow channel is varied to provide the uniform cross sectional area throughout, wherein the thickness is measured perpendicular to an outer surface of the radiation capturing element.
