Abstract
Methods and compositions comprising an emulsion or a microemulsion for use in various aspects of the life cycle of an oil and/or gas well are provided. In some embodiments, the emulsion or the microemulsion comprises water, a solvent, and a surfactant, and optionally, one or more additives. In some embodiments, methods for preventing, reducing, or eliminating a crude oil emulsion in an oil and/or gas well are provided.
Claims30
A method of preventing, reducing, or eliminating a crude oil emulsion in an oil and/or gas well having a wellbore, comprising:
- injecting a solution comprising an emulsion or a microemulsion into the wellbore of an oil and/or gas well,
- wherein the crude oil emulsion is prevented, reduced, or eliminated following injection of the solution;
- and
- wherein the emulsion or the microemulsion comprises a surfactant, a first solvent, and a silicone solvent, wherein the silicone solvent is a volatile linear or cyclic siloxane having the chemical formula (CH3)3SiO—((CH3)2SiO)n—Si(CH3)3 or cyclic [(CH3)2SiO]m, wherein n is 0 to 5 and m is 4 or 5, wherein the silicone solvent has a molecular weight less than about 800 g/mol, wherein the surfactant comprises a nonionic, an anionic, or a cationic surfactant, wherein the cationic surfactant comprises a quaternary ammonium salt.
