Abstract
A cutting tool including an annular cutter body having at least one V-shaped pocket formed therein and a cutting tool cartridge configured to be received in the at least one pocket of the cutter body. The cutting tool cartridge including a main body. The main body includes a cutting head having a cutting chip control portion and a pocket configured to receive a cutting insert.
Claims13
A cutting tool cartridge configured to be received in an annular cutter body rotatable about a central longitudinal axis thereof, the cutting tool cartridge comprising:
- a main body including a cutting head having a pocket configured to receive a cutting insert, wherein the pocket includes a shoulder and a substantially planar surface, the shoulder and the substantially planar surface cooperating to position the cutting insert relative to the cutting tool cartridge, wherein a concave surface extends away from the shoulder of the pocket, the concave surface including a first end adjacent the shoulder and a second end spaced from the shoulder, wherein the second end of the concave surface is disposed adjacent an outer circumferential surface of the annular cutter body when the cutting tool cartridge is received in the annular cutter body, wherein the second end of the concave surface is disposed radially outward of the first end of the concave surface with respect to the central longitudinal axis of the annular cutter body when the cutting tool cartridge is received in the annular cutter body, and wherein the concave surface is configured to direct cutting chips away from the annular cutter body.
A cutting tool cartridge, comprising:
- a main body including a cutting head having a pocket configured to receive a cutting insert, wherein the pocket includes a shoulder and a substantially planar surface, the shoulder and the substantially planar surface cooperating to position the cutting insert relative to the cutting tool cartridge, the shoulder including a first surface and a second surface, the second surface including a first portion arranged substantially perpendicular to the first surface and a second portion angled with respect to the first portion.
A cutting tool cartridge, comprising:
- a main body including a cutting head having a pocket configured to receive a cutting insert, wherein the pocket includes a shoulder and a substantially planar surface, the shoulder and the substantially planar surface cooperating to position the cutting insert relative to the cutting tool cartridge, wherein the cutting head includes a concave surface extending away from the pocket, wherein the concave surface is in facing relationship with the pocket and is configured to direct cutting chips away from the cutting tool cartridge.
