Abstract
In an conferencing system in which a plurality of communication devices electronically connect respective participants to one another, a method for mitigating the effects of substantially concurrent audio bursts from two or more of the participants includes identifying a priority attribute associated with each of multiple substantially concurrent audio bursts, comparing the identified priority attributes, and electronically suppressing at least one audio burst as a function of the comparison.
Claims20
A method for mitigating the effects of concurrent audio bursts from two or more participants in a conference system, in which a plurality of communication devices electronically connect the participants to one another, the method comprising:
- identifying a priority attribute associated with each of multiple concurrent audio bursts;
- comparing the identified priority attributes;
- and
- electronically and automatically suppressing at least one of the concurrent audio bursts as a function of the comparison, wherein said suppressing comprises performing one or more of attenuating, altering pitch, sound replacement, selective frequency manipulation, or selective spatial positioning, wherein said suppressing includes selectively suppressing perception of the audio burst by less than the total number of participants,
- wherein the conferencing system is implemented at least in part with hardware.
A conferencing system operable to mitigate the effects of two or more substantially concurrent audio bursts, comprising:
- a concurrency detector that determines concurrency of two or more audio bursts;
- an attribute extractor that extracts priority attributes from concurrent audio bursts;
- a comparator that compares extracted priority attributes;
- and
- a suppressor that electronically and automatically suppresses at least one of the two or more concurrent audio bursts as a function of the comparison, wherein the suppressor performs on said at least one audio burst one or more of attenuating, altering pitch, sound replacement, selective frequency manipulation, or selective spatial positioning, wherein the suppressor selectively suppresses perception of the audio burst by less than the total number of participants,
- wherein the conferencing system is implemented at least in part with hardware.
