Abstract
A method is for processing an analog channel signal from a transmission channel. The method may include converting of the analog channel signal to a digital channel signal, and performing a channel estimation digital processing of the digital channel signal. The channel estimation digital processing may include for at least one frame, generating transfer functions of the transmission channel, the transfer functions respectively associated with reference symbols of the frame, and averaging processing of the transfer functions to generate an average transfer function. The method may include decoding of symbols of the frame following the reference symbols using the average transfer function.

A method for processing a power line communication (PLC) channel signal from a PLC channel, the method comprising:
- processing the PLC channel signal, wherein the processing the PLC channel signal comprises converting the PLC channel signal to a first digital signal;
- and
- processing a frame of the first digital signal, wherein the processing the frame of the first digital signal comprises
- estimating the PLC channel transfer function by
- generating M transfer functions of the PLC channel respectively associated with M successive reference symbols of the frame, wherein
- M is greater or equal to 3, and
- a time from a beginning of a first reference symbol of the M successive reference symbols of the frame to an end of a last symbol of the M successive reference symbols of the frame is greater than half a period of a carrier of the PLC channel,
- averaging the M transfer functions of the PLC channel to obtain the PLC channel transfer function, and
- decoding symbols of the frame following the M successive reference symbols using the PLC channel transfer function.
A receiver comprising:
- an input stage having an input configured to be coupled to a power line communication (PLC) channel;
- an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) having an input coupled to an output of the input stage and configured to generate a digital signal at an output of the ADC;
- and
- a processing stage comprising a processing sub-stage configured to receive a first digital signal, the processing sub-stage configured to
- process a frame of the first digital signal, wherein the processing the frame of the first digital signal comprises
A power line communication (PLC) method comprising:
- encoding data;
- encoding M successive reference symbols in a differential manner, wherein M is greater or equal to 3;
- transmitting a frame comprising the encoded M successive reference symbols followed by the encoded data through a PLC channel, wherein a time from a beginning of a first reference symbol of the M successive reference symbols of the frame to an end of a last symbol of the M successive reference symbols of the frame is greater than half a period of a carrier of the PLC channel;
- receiving an analog signal from the PLC channel;
- converting the analog signal to a digital signal;
- and
- processing a frame of the digital signal, wherein the processing the frame of the digital signal comprises
- estimating the PLC channel transfer function by
- generating M transfer functions of the PLC channel respectively associated with M successive reference symbols of the frame,
