Abstract
Improved rotary switch systems and methods are disclosed. Such systems and methods may be used in vehicles that implement shift-by-wire transmission systems. The switch systems and methods may include programmable end-stops and/or variable tactile feedback.
Claims7
A method of operation of an electronically controlled rotary switch, comprising:
- determining whether a rotary knob assembly without a solenoid or a motor is permitted to rotate based on data available to a controller in electrical communication with the knob assembly, the controller being adapted to receive sensed information about whether an attempt to rotate the switch occurred;
- sensing an attempted rotation of the rotary switch;
- and
- after sensed attempted rotation, if the rotary not permitted to rotate, energizing a braking device through the controller in electrical communication with the braking device to slow or stop rotation of the rotary knob.
