Abstract
Systems and methods utilizing stationary and/or moveable cutting components provide limited interference with web processing operations, such as pad spin and pitch alteration. Heat, laser, fluid, or mechanical cutting operations may be used, including respectively, a heated element (e.g., wire, ribbon, bar, or embossing or perforating element) that may be triggered inductively, water or steam jets, or improved knife/anvil cooperation.
Claims5
A system for processing a web of material, the system comprising:
- a rotating body carrying a metallic element and carrying a web of material;
- an induction field;
- said rotating body rotated about an axis and said metallic element carried through said induction field at a web alteration zone;
- said induction field acting upon said metallic element;
- and
- said metallic element contacting said web of material in said web alteration to alter said web of material from a first condition to a second condition, said second condition of said web comprising a continuous cut across said web in a cross-machine direction.
