Service pool for multi-tenant applications

A non-transitory computer readable storage medium having instructions that, when executed by a processing device, cause the processing device to:

• receive, by the processing device, a request from a client for a specific service;
• responsive to determining that the specific service is not running a virtual machine, convert a previously instantiated generic service into the specific service by the processing device, wherein to convert, the processing device is further to:
• assign the generic service from a service pool for the specific service;
• rename the generic service in view of a name of the specific service;
• query a directory service for specific service logic associated with the specific service;
• receive at least one of the specific service logic or a reference to the specific service logic from the directory service;
• and
• update the generic service to include at least one of the specific service logic or the reference to the specific service logic;
• determine that there are fewer than a threshold quantity of available generic services;
• rank non-generic services in view of usage of the non-generic services, the specific service being one of the non-generic services;
• and
• convert the specific service back into the generic service responsive to making a determination that the specific service has a rank below a rank threshold.

A computing device comprising:

• a memory;
• and
• a processing device operatively coupled to the memory, the processing device to:
• receive a request from a client for a specific service;
• responsive to determining that the specific service is not running on a virtual machine, convert a previously instantiated generic service into the specific service by the processing device, wherein to convert, the processing device is further to:
• assign the generic service from a service pool for the specific service;
• rename the generic service in view of a name of the specific service;
• query a directory service for specific service logic associated with the specific service;
• receive at least one of the specific service logic or a reference to the specific service logic from the directory service;
• and
• update the generic service to include at least one of the specific service logic or the reference to the specific service logic
• determine that there are fewer than a threshold quantity of available generic services;
• rank non-generic services in view of usage of the non-generic services, the specific service being one of the non-generic services;
• and
• convert the specific service back into the generic service responsive to making a determination that the specific service has a rank below a rank threshold.
