Abstract
The present invention describes methods, assays, and systems of diagnosing, selecting and treating irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) based on a subject's level of anti-vinculin and anti-CdtB antibodies. IBS can be distinguished from inflammatory bowel (IBD) disease using the methods, assays, and systems described herein.
Claims20
A method of detecting whether anti-vinculin antibodies are higher than anti-cytolethal distending toxin (CDT) antibodies, and optionally selecting a treatment for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) or optionally administering an IBS therapy, comprising:
- assaying a biological sample obtained from a subject having a symptom of IBS and desiring a diagnosis regarding IBS or a diagnosis to distinguish IBS from inflammatory bowel syndrome (IBD) for a level of anti-vinculin antibodies and a level of anti-CDT antibodies;
- and
- determining the difference between the level of anti-vinculin antibodies and the level of anti-CDT antibodies.
A system, comprising:
- an isolated biological sample from a subject desiring a diagnosis regarding IBS;
- and
- one or more assays for detecting a level of anti-vinculin antibodies and a level of anti-cytolethal distending toxin (CDT) antibodies to diagnose IBS.
A system, comprising:
- an isolated biological sample from a subject desiring a diagnosis to distinguish between IBS and IBD;
- and
- one or more assays to detect a level of anti-vinculin antibodies and a level of anti-cytolethal distending toxin (CDT) antibodies to distinguish between IBS and IBD.
