Claims10
A decoupling assembly that may be installed in a plumbing network, comprising:
- a housing having an open end;
- a cylindrical insert closing the open end of the housing, the insert comprising a seat adapted to receive a seal, the insert having a longitudinal centerline axis;
- and
- a joint material forming a joint between the housing and the insert, the joint material creating a conditionally secure attachment,
- wherein at least one of the housing and the insert has formed on a surface thereof one or more circumferential annular rings and one or more grooves that are parallel to the longitudinal centerline axis and intersect the one or more annular rings, the rings and grooves collectively defining a void between the housing and the insert, the joint material being disposed within the void,
- wherein the joint material is selected so as to be injectable into and set within the void and wherein the set joint material has a softening temperature, and
- wherein the joint material softens to allow the insert to decouple from the housing when exposed to temperatures in excess of the softening temperature.
