Abstract
An airflow control system for a gas turbine system according to an embodiment includes: a compressor component of a gas turbine system; a mixing area for receiving an exhaust gas stream produced by the gas turbine system; an air extraction system for extracting a supply of bypass air from an excess flow of air generated by the compressor component of the gas turbine system; an enclosure surrounding the gas turbine system and forming an air passage, the bypass air flowing through the air passage and around the gas turbine system into the mixing area to reduce a temperature of the exhaust gas stream; and an exhaust processing system for processing the reduced temperature exhaust gas stream.
Claims14
An airflow control system for a gas turbine system comprising a first compressor component, a second compressor component, a combustor component, and a turbine component, the airflow control system comprising:
- the first compressor component for generating an excess flow of air, wherein the excess flow of air is greater than a flow rate capacity of the combustor component;
- a mixing area downstream of the turbine component for receiving an exhaust gas stream produced by the gas turbine system;
- an air extraction system for directing a supply of bypass air, the bypass air comprising a portion of the excess flow of air generated by the first compressor component, into an annular air passage and for directing a remaining portion of the excess flow of air generated by the first compressor component into the second compressor component;
- wherein the air extraction system includes an air splitting system comprising:
- a radially outer section, with respect to a rotational axis of the gas turbine system, including at least one inlet guide vane for directing and modulating the bypass air into the annular air passage;
- and
- a radially inner section for directing the remaining portion of the excess flow of air into the second compressor component to supercharge the gas turbine system;
- an enclosure extending axially along the rotational axis from the second compressor component to the mixing duct and radially surrounding the second compressor component, the combustor component, and the turbine component, the enclosure forming the radially outer boundary of the annular air passage so that the bypass air flowing through the annular air passage bypasses the second compressor component, the combustor component, and the turbine component and is injected directly from the annular passage into the mixing area to mix with and reduce a temperature of the exhaust gas stream;
- and
- a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system for processing the reduced temperature exhaust gas stream.
A turbomachine system, comprising:
- a gas turbine system including a compressor component, a combustor component, and a turbine component, wherein the compressor component of the gas turbine system includes at least a first compressor stage for generating an excess flow of air and a second compressor stage downstream of the first stage, wherein the excess flow of air is greater than a flow rate capacity of the combustor component of the gas turbine system;
- a mixing area downstream of the turbine component for receiving an exhaust gas stream produced by the gas turbine system;
- an air extraction system for directing a supply of bypass air, the bypass air comprising a portion of the excess flow of air generated by the first compressor stage, into an annular air passage and for directing a remaining portion of the excess flow of air generated by the first compressor stage into the second compressor stage;
- wherein the air extraction system includes an air splitting system comprising:
- a radially outer section, with respect to a rotational axis of the gas turbine system, including at least one inlet guide vane for directing and modulating the bypass air into the annular air passage;
