Abstract
In one embodiment, a lid structure with latches is configured for sealing use with container vessels of different materials having differing manufacturing dimensional tolerances, such plastic vessels and glass vessels. Another feature of a lid and vessel combination is the provision of a lid receptacle feature, configured to capture the base of a vessel in a stacking arrangement, without utilization of special features on the vessel base. A method of merchandising lids and vessels is described, wherein a lid is provided for separate purchase, a plurality of vessels of different materials is provided for separate purchase which are configured to match to the lid.
Claims13
A lid and vessel combination, the vessel having a generally rectangular vessel base with four sides and four corners, the lid comprising a lid receptacle configured to capture the vessel base in a stacking arrangement, without utilization of special features on the vessel base, wherein side wall portions of the vessel are substantially vertical at interference areas adjacent a bottom wall portion of the vessel, the interference areas comprising four interference areas, each interference area intermediate adjacent ones of the four corners;
- and wherein the lid receptacle is defined by an inner wall and a lid web portion, and wherein a top edge of the inner wall defines a closed, generally rectangular periphery having four lid receptacle corners, said closed periphery in four selected areas defined by dimensions selected in combination with corresponding dimensions of the base of the vessel to create an interference fit between the closed periphery and said interference areas of the side wall portions of the vessel when the vessel or a second vessel identical to the vessel is placed over the lid receptacle and pressed down into the receptacle;
- wherein each of the four selected areas are intermediate corresponding ones of the lid receptacle corners, said closed periphery has a length dimension D1 as measured between opposed first and second ones of the four selected areas and a width dimension D2 as measured between opposed third and fourth ones of the four selected areas, and wherein said dimensions D1 and D2 are smaller than corresponding length and width dimensions of the closed periphery as measured between respective corresponding ones of the lid receptacle corners;
- and
- wherein the vessel base does not contact the four corners of the closed periphery when the vessel is in the stacking arrangement.
A lid and vessel system, comprising:
- a lid comprising a lid receptacle, configured to capture a base of a vessel in a stacking arrangement without utilization of special features on the vessel base, and wherein the lid receptacle is defined by an inner wall and a lid web portion, and wherein a top edge of the inner wall defines a closed, generally rectangular periphery having four lid receptacle corners;
- the vessel comprising the vessel base, side wall portions, four vessel base corners and a bottom wall portion, wherein the side wall portions of the vessel are substantially perpendicular to the bottom wall portion at interference areas adjacent the bottom wall portion of the vessel, the interference areas comprising four interference areas, each interference area intermediate adjacent ones of the four vessel base corners;
- and
- said closed periphery of the top edge of the inner wall of the lid receptacle cooperatively configured with the vessel base to create an interference fit between said closed periphery and said interference areas of the side wall portions of the vessel when a second vessel of a second lid and vessel system is received in the lid receptacle;
- wherein said closed periphery has a length dimension D1 as measured between opposed first and second ones of the four selected areas and a width dimension D2 as measured between opposed third and fourth ones of the four selected areas, and wherein said dimensions D1 and D2 are smaller than corresponding length and width dimensions of the closed periphery as measured between respective corresponding ones of the lid receptacle corners;
- and
- wherein the vessel base does not contact the four corners of the closed periphery when the vessel is in the stacking arrangement.
