Exhaust gas purification catalyst

An exhaust gas purification catalyst, disposed in an exhaust gas passage of an internal combustion engine and purifying an exhaust gas discharged from the internal combustion engine,

• the exhaust gas purification catalyst comprising:
• a porous substrate;
• a catalyst coating layer formed on the porous substrate;
• and
• a dummy coating layer formed on the outermost surface of the catalyst coating layer, wherein
• the catalyst coating layer has a carrier and a noble metal catalyst supported on the carrier;
• and
• the dummy coating layer is constituted by alumina, does not include a noble metal catalyst, and is formed to have a length which, from an end on an exhaust gas inlet side, is 10% to 70% of an entire length of the catalyst coating layer along an exhaust gas flow direction;
• and
• a specific surface area of the alumina included in the dummy coating layer is larger than that of the carrier included in the catalyst coating layer,
• wherein the alumina included in the dummy coating layer has a specific surface area of 50 m2/g or more.
