Abstract
This invention provides compositions and methods for cryoprotection of recombinant live cancer cells. Specifically, an improved cryoprotective medium is provided which includes a hydroxyethyl starch and/or derivative thereof alone or in combination with either DMSO or glycerol.
Claims12
A frozen population of recombinant cancer cells, wherein
- the recombinant cancer cells are frozen in a medium comprising about 5% by weight to about 22% by weight of a hydroxyethyl starch (HES) and about 5% by weight to about 10% by weight of DMSO,
- wherein the recombinant cancer cells are irradiated prior to freezing or in the cryogenic frozen state to render the recombinant cancer cells proliferation-incompetent;
- and
- wherein the recombinant cancer cells express an introduced heterologous nucleic acid coding sequence for granulocyte-macrophage colony stimulating factor (GM-CSF).
