Abstract
Synthetic regulation of gene expression is provided. In some embodiments, synthetic regulatory constructs are provided. In some embodiments, a synthetic regulatory construct expresses a heterologous gene in a selected cell type. In some embodiments, methods of expressing a heterologous gene in a selected cell type are provided.

A synthetic regulatory construct comprising a cell-specific promoter in operable communication with a heterologous gene and a cell-specific exon, wherein the cell-specific promoter and the cell-specific exon are obtained from two distinct genes, and wherein the cell-specific promoter and the cell-specific exon are specific for the same cell type or different cell types.
