Abstract
The present disclosure relates to genetically engineered methanotrophic bacteria with the capability of growing on a multi-carbon substrate as a primary or sole carbon source and methods for growing methanotrophic bacteria on a multi-carbon substrate.
Claims34
A recombinant methanotrophic bacterium comprising at least one exogenous nucleic acid encoding an acetate utilization pathway component,
- wherein acetate is not utilized as a carbon source by an unmodified parent methanotrophic bacterium;
- wherein the encoded acetate utilization pathway component comprises an acetyl-CoA synthase and is expressed in a sufficient amount to permit growth of the recombinant methanotrophic bacterium on acetate as a primary carbon source;
- and
- wherein the methanotrophic bacterium is selected from Methylococcus capsulatus, Methylomonas sp. 16A, Methylosinus trichosyorium, Methylosinus syorium, Methylocystis parvus, Methylomonas methanica, Methylomonas albus, Methylobacter capsulatus, Methylomonas flagellate, Methylacidiyhilum infernorum, Methylomicrobium alcaliyhilum, or Methylobacterium organophilum.
