Abstract
The present invention relates generally to an advanced oxidation process for providing advanced oxidation products to an environment. More particularly, the present invention provides a device, system, and method utilizing an advanced oxidation process to react with and neutralize compounds in an environment, including microbes, odor causing chemicals, and other organic and inorganic chemicals. The device, system, and method of the present invention employ a wick structure to collect and concentrate water vapor, so that the water vapor may subsequently be used to generate advanced oxidation products.
Claims28
An apparatus for generating advanced oxidation products comprising:
- a hydrophilic catalytic wick structure comprising a porous base material and having an interior surface and an exterior surface;
- at least one high frequency ultrasonic emitter positioned to direct ultrasonic energy to the interior surface of the wick structure;
- a light source;
- and
- a chamber wherein the formation of advanced oxidation products occurs disposed adjacent to the interior surface of the wick structure.
A method for producing advanced oxidation products, comprising:
- flowing an air mass comprising water vapor adjacent to an exterior surface of a hydrophilic catalytic wick structure;
- condensing the water vapor into liquid water at the exterior surface of the wick structure;
- transporting liquid water to an interior surface of the wick structure along a differential moisture gradient;
- vaporizing the liquid water to water vapor using an ultrasonic emitter positioned to direct ultrasonic energy at an interior surface of the wick structure;
- converting the water vapor into advanced oxidation products in a chamber adjacent to the interior surface of the wick structure;
- and
- producing advanced oxidation products from the water vapor.
A method for producing advanced oxidation products, comprising:
- flowing an air mass comprising water vapor adjacent to an exterior surface of a hydrophilic catalytic wick structure comprising a base material,
- wherein the base material is porous and comprises a mixture of a hydrophilic material, a catalytic material, and a ceramic matrix,
- wherein the catalytic material comprises titanium dioxide, wherein at least a portion of the titanium dioxide is in anatase crystal form, and wherein the hydrophilic material is formulated to absorb and release water;
- condensing the water vapor into liquid water at the exterior surface of the wick structure;
- vaporizing the liquid water to water vapor using an ultrasonic emitter positioned to direct ultrasonic energy at an interior surface of the wick structure;
- and
- converting the water vapor into advanced oxidation products in a chamber adjacent to the interior surface of the wick structure;
- wherein approximately 95% of the water vapor condensed at the exterior surface of the wick structure is vaporized at the interior surface of the wick structure.
