Abstract
An improved endoscopic tool easily and efficiently obtains samples of multiple polyps from a patient by debriding one or more polyps and retrieving the debrided polyps without having to alternate between using a separate cutting tool and a separate sample retrieving tool and may be used with an endoscope.
Claims17
An endoscopic instrument configured to be inserted within a single instrument channel of an endoscope, the endoscopic instrument comprising:
- a power-driven instrument head configured to resect material at a site within a subject, the power-driven instrument head having a first distal end and a first proximal end, the first distal end of the power-driven instrument head defining a material entry port through which the resected material can enter the endoscopic instrument;
- a body comprising a powered actuator and a flexible tubing,
- the powered actuator having an actuator distal end and an actuator proximal end, the actuator distal end of the powered actuator coupled to the first proximal end of the power-driven instrument head and configured to drive the power-driven instrument head,
- the flexible tubing having a second distal end and a second proximal end, the second distal end coupled to the actuator proximal end of the powered actuator such that the powered actuator is positioned between the power-driven instrument head and the flexible tubing, the second proximal end of the flexible tubing defining a material exit port, the power-driven instrument head, the powered actuator and the flexible tubing sized to be received and disposed into a distal portion of the instrument channel of the endoscope and the endoscopic instrument is configured to be inserted in the instrument channel from a proximal end of the endoscope, the power-driven instrument head, the powered actuator and the flexible tubing configured to be positioned within a distal portion of the instrument channel of the endoscope during use while the distal portion of the instrument channel is within the cavity of the subject;
- and
- an aspiration channel extending from the material entry port of the power-driven instrument head to the material exit port of the flexible tubing, the second proximal end of the flexible tubing is configured to couple to a vacuum source that is configured to cause the resected material entering the aspiration channel via the material entry port to traverse the aspiration channel and exit at the material exit port while the powered actuator and the flexible tubing are disposed within the distal portion of the instrument channel of the endoscope that is inserted within a cavity of the subject, a distance between the material entry port and the material exit port greater than a length of the instrument channel of the endoscope within which the endoscopic instrument is configured to be inserted.
