Abstract
The invention relates to the sorghum variety designated GSV616359. Provided by the invention are the seeds, plants and derivatives of the sorghum variety GSV616359. Also provided by the invention are tissue cultures of the sorghum variety GSV616359 and the plants regenerated therefrom. Still further provided by the invention are methods for producing sorghum plants by crossing the sorghum variety GSV616359 with itself or another sorghum variety and plants produced by such methods.
Claims20
A seed of sorghum variety GSV616359, a representative sample of seed of said sorghum variety GSV616359 has been deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-124224.
A method of producing a sorghum plant comprising an added desired trait, said method comprising introducing a transgene conferring the desired trait into a plant of sorghum variety GSV616359, wherein a representative sample of seed of sorghum variety GSV616359 has been deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-124224.
A method of plant breeding, said method comprising:
- (a) crossing a plant of sorghum variety GSV616359 with a second plant comprising a desired single locus to produce F1 progeny plants, representative seed of said sorghum variety GSV616359 having been deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-124224;
- (b) selecting at least a first progeny plant from step (a) that comprises the single locus to produce a selected progeny plant;
- (c) crossing the selected progeny plant from step (b) with a plant of sorghum variety GSV616359 to produce at least a first backcross progeny plant that comprises the single locus;
- and
- (d) repeating steps (b) and (c) with the first backcross progeny plant produced from step (c) used in place of the first progeny plant of step (b) during said repeating, wherein steps (b) and (c) are repeated until at least a backcross progeny plant is produced comprising the single locus.
A plant of sorghum variety GSV616359 further comprising a single locus conversion, wherein said plant otherwise comprises all of the morphological and physiological characteristics of sorghum variety GSV616359 when grown under the same environmental conditions, and wherein representative seed of said sorghum variety GSV616359 having been deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-124224.
A method of producing an inbred plant derived from sorghum variety GSV616359, said method comprising the steps of:
- (a) crossing a plant of sorghum variety GSV616359 with a second sorghum plant of a different genotype to produce hybrid sorghum seed, representative seed of said sorghum variety GSV616359 having been deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-124224;
- (b) crossing a plant grown from said hybrid sorghum seed with itself or a different sorghum plant to produce a seed of a progeny plant of a subsequent generation;
- (c) growing a progeny plant of a subsequent generation from said seed of a progeny plant of a subsequent generation and crossing the progeny plant of a subsequent generation with itself or a second plant to produce a progeny plant of a further subsequent generation;
- and
- (d) repeating steps (b) and (c) using said progeny plant of a further subsequent generation from step (c) in place of the plant grown from said hybrid soybean seed in step (b), wherein steps (b) and (c) are repeated with sufficient inbreeding to produce an inbred sorghum plant derived from sorghum variety GSV616359.
