Abstract
Generally provided herein is a predictive policing system including at least one crime prediction server constructed to process historical crime data to produce a crime forecast assigning at least one geographic region to at least one crime type for use in crime prevention, deterrence, and disruption practices.
Claims28
A computer implemented predictive policing system comprising:
- at least one display device;
- a storage medium storing a plurality of crime events with each crime event defined by a location component, a historical time component, and a crime type;
- at least one prediction processing device having an accessible memory component and operable to be placed in communication with the at least one display device and the storage medium;
- a prediction engine defining a plurality of instructions retrievable into the memory component to be executed by the prediction processing device to:
- obtain a run time;
- obtain a time interval including a prospective time component relative to the run time;
- obtain a display threshold defining at least one display element cutoff;
- define a map of a geographic region incorporating at least one location component from the plurality of historical crime events, the map including one or more location identifiers tied to the geographic region;
- process at least some of the plurality of historical crime events available in the storage medium to define one or more predictive hotspot regions within the geographic region, each predictive hotspot region representing the probability of one or more crime events occurring within the associated hotspot region during the prospective time component of the time interval;
- and
- visually depict a crime forecasting report on the at least one display device, the crime forecasting report including the map of the geographic region, a time interval indicator corresponding to the time interval, and at least one predictive hotspot region responsive to the display element cutoff of the display threshold illustrated by an outline incorporating at least a portion of the geographic region with one or more location identifiers, the crime forecasting report further depicting at least one crime type and the probability of the at least one crime type occurring within the at least one predictive hotspot region and within the prospective time component of the time interval.
